At Open Security, we recently took the time to do exactly that during our annual Summit, held in Seattle in early March 2025. This gathering wasn’t just a company event; it was an opportunity to pause, reconnect as a team, and strategically chart our path forward.
Laying the Foundation
Our Executive Leadership Team arrived early, dedicating time upfront to ensure the upcoming sessions would deliver real value. Spending this focused time together set the stage for deeper collaboration and clearer alignment right from the start. These preliminary conversations laid a solid foundation, enabling our leadership to dive into the Summit ready to inspire and engage the broader team.
Entering the Thunderdome
On Sunday, our senior leadership team engaged in what we affectionately termed the “Thunderdome.” It wasn’t your standard executive meeting—this session was intentionally challenging, designed to spark tough conversations and critical thinking about where we’re heading and how we’ll get there. We pushed each other constructively, ensuring our strategies were not only ambitious but also realistically achievable.
Challenging Our Own Assumptions
As the full team gathered Monday, we started by shaking off our comfort zones. Through a session focused on “Challenging Assumptions,” we encouraged everyone to question existing beliefs, share diverse perspectives, and think differently about how we do things. These open dialogues helped break down barriers, fostered innovative thinking, and set the tone for a week filled with fresh insights.
Breaking Through Plateaus
Tuesday tackled one of our most critical themes: overcoming plateaus. We opened with a meaningful discussion, “What We Do & Why It Matters,” reconnecting each team member personally to our mission. Additional sessions, like “Success Driven by Obsession” and “Unplateauing Yourself,” challenged us to rethink our personal and professional goals. Interactive breakout sessions provided a hands-on opportunity for everyone to collaborate and define actionable next steps together.
To balance the intense daytime workshops, we headed to Climate Pledge Arena for a night out, cheering on Seattle’s Kraken hockey team. Moments like these, where we celebrated and laughed together, reminded us why our culture is so special—every win matters, big or small.
Building Skills and Embracing Innovation
Wednesday was all about leveling up our skills, with interactive sessions focused on practical competencies such as AI-driven coding and essential workplace tools. It wasn’t just about keeping pace with technology—it was about positioning ourselves as leaders in our field.
Ending the day by visiting Seattle’s iconic Space Needle wasn’t just symbolic—it was genuinely inspiring. Standing together overlooking the city, we reflected on the heights we’d already reached and felt motivated to aim even higher.
Heading Home, Moving Forward
As our team departed Seattle on Friday, the positive energy was palpable. It was clear that our time together had strengthened our connections, refreshed our vision, and instilled an even deeper sense of purpose and excitement about what’s ahead.
